DESCRIPTION:Due to COVID concerns\, HAS is offering a different kind of Annual Meeting this year on Tuesday\, May 11th.  We’ll start out with small-group bird walks in Elizabeth Park\, followed by optional boxed dinners to take home\, and culminating with a virtual Annual Meeting and Evening Program.  We hope that many of you will be able to participate in some or all of the activities. \n\n4:30- 5:30 pm\, Guided Bird Walks in Elizabeth Park. We’ll start at the Pond House and fan out from there in small groups\, led by our Board members and experienced trip leaders.  The Pond House Café is located at 1555 Asylum Ave\, West Hartford\, CT.  Masks will be required.\nPre-registration is required.  Please email Annette Pasek by Friday\, May 7th to register for a walk.  apasek@cox.net\n\n5:30 – 6:00 pm: Boxed dinners picked up at the Pond House Café at 1555 Asylum Ave\, West Hartford. DESCRIPTION:Hilltop Farm          Wed 8:30 am \n1616 Mapleton Ave\, Suffield\, CT \nEnter at Work Day Sign Entrance \nPark near the red barn.  Addional parking signs will be posted.  \nWalk around this 7.9-acre historic homestead and adjacent town-owned open space.  View the eagles’ nest from the boardwalk which is surrounded by newly planted native species purchased with a HAS grant.  Stroll by the Connecticut River\, an inland pond\, and the Community Garden plots.  Visit the Corn Crib Garden area home to bluebirds\, wrens and hummingbirds.  This area provides a more passive area for those who would like to sit and relax while enjoying birds and butterflies. This area has also been enhanced with the HAS grant.  Butterfly\, pollinator\, and hummingbird gardens surround the historic barn. Maureen is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator and has been focusing on bats for over twenty years. DESCRIPTION: Sep 30        Cruisin’ with Birds & Brews   Thu 3 pm \nUse 202 Ferry Lane\, South Glastonbury\, CT for a  GPS address \nDrive past house at 202 to the end of lane\, park in  lot on left. \nHappy hour time!  Starting at the Connecticut River easy observations from picnic area for common birds\, woodpeckers and gulls\, ducks are likely too!  Migration may bring some surprises.  The big question is when will a Sandhill Crane be spotted in the farm fields?  Flat terrain\, easy birding.  The  walk ends around the corner at 275 Dug Rd\, Hops on the Hill Brewery where Thursday evenings they host a Car Cruise Night! DESCRIPTION:Oct 2\,2021       Smith Richardson Sparrowdise  Sat 8 am \nSmith Richardson Sanctuary\, 39 Sasco Creek Rd\, Westport \nMeet at the corner of Sasco Creek and Hedley Farms Roads \nSigns indicate each of the preserve’s three parcels. \nCome and visit the CT Audubon Society Smith Richardson Preserve with its spectacular fall stopover habitat for land birds.  This is a great place for sparrows and other seed eating birds.  The trails are flat and wide with maybe a mile of easy walking.  Time might run until noon. The Connecticut Audubon Society has embarked on a massive habitat restoration project here in recent years.  Feed plots are planted to help out compete invasive plants in between the planted trees and shrubs.  Can be amazing for sparrows.
