Dismal Brook Wildlife Preserve – 5/11/2023

on Loomis St to parking lot on left.

Offering woodlands, two extensive marshes, a weedy field and a pond with active beavers, Dismal Brook attracts a spectacular variety of birds (the site’s checklist numbers 142 species).  The preserve boasts wide, well-maintained trails, two observation decks for viewing the marshes and comfortable benches at strategic points.  The walk will cover about two miles, most of it on even ground, except for the quarter-mile, gentle climb up to the cabin overlooking the pond.   Limited to 15 participants; contact the leader after April 1st to register.  Rain cancels the walk.
