Volunteers at Hartford Audubon Society play a crucial role in the fulfillment of our mission. We are run completely on the efforts of our volunteers, and we could not accomplish all we do without them. Volunteers promote increased knowledge and understanding of birds by organizing guest speakers at our monthly meetings and quarterly Wildlife Series, maintaining our 4 sanctuaries, and leading field trips both inside and outside Hartford County. Volunteer positions will be posted below as the need arises.

Finance Committee – Serve as a member of the Committee which meets quarterly. Financial, investment, or accounting experience required. Time Commitment: 3-4 hours / quarter.

Programs and Event Planning – We are always interested in anyone who can assist the Program & Events Coordinator in finding & scheduling guest speakers for monthly meetings and wildlife programs. Time Commitment: 2-3 hours / month

Sanctuary Maintenance – Generally, each Sanctuary Steward will organize periodic work party events lasting 3 – 5 hours on a Saturday morning.

Christmas Bird Count Co-Compiler – Assist with the compilation of data for the Hartford Christmas Bird Count, the longest running citizen science project of its kind in the world. The count provides trends on bird populations in our area and an incredible amount of information can be gleaned from these records.   Activities: Coordinate with captains of 12 areas to ensure coverage; Work with captains to compile count results; Enter data into Excel; Send results to Audubon and COA and submit a final report to HAS.

Timeframe: Late November and December/early January.

Note: Summer Bird Count co-compiler also needed.
