Join us on our next field trip and see what you’ve been missing. Most of our trips are free and open to the public, and beginners are always welcomed.

Overnight trips: For any overnight trips, the leader must be contacted two weeks prior.

Note: Please inform the leaders if you plan to join the group. Pouring rain generally cancels a trip, but it may not be raining at the trip site, so call.

Attendees are responsible for their own meals, travel expenses and accommodations, when applicable.

Please check the website for any changes to field trip dates on the calendar due to weather or other circumstances.

Members and non-members can email us at info@HartfordAudobon.org for further information or assistance.  You may also contact the trip leader listed for a particular trip via email or phone.

Reminder: The Hartford Audubon Society Board would like to encourage its members and guests to take seriously the goals of this organization to promote conservation of our natural resources and carpool whenever possible.

Etiquette to follow when birding:

  • Be respectful and considerate of other birders.

  • Keep your distance from birds, especially near nests, and be aware of their behavior. Speak softly and don’t block others’ views.

  • Don’t use phishing or playbacks of bird calls, especially in heavily birded areas or near sensitive species. Sound harassment can stress birds and make them more vulnerable to predators.

  • Be aware of other birders. If you’re birding with others, remain within voice contact and help each other identify birds.  Be encouraging and share your knowledge when asked.

  • While perfectly fine to take photos on field trips, please ask other peoples’ permission if they wish to be in any photos.

  • Don’t litter, damage habitat, or trespass on private property.
  • Be aware of the law – Follow all laws, rules, and regulations at your birding location. For example, be aware of regulations about disturbing nesting areas or sensitive habitats.
