Speaker:  Dr Rick Prum

Dr. Prum is the William Robertson Coe Professor of Ornithology, Ecology, and Evolutionary Biology at Yale University. Rick worked with a team including Gabriela Venable, a former undergraduate in his lab, collecting samples of plumage colors from 114 species of hummingbirds and compared this information with an existing dataset of colors of 111 other bird species. The team found that the diversity of bird-visible colors in hummingbird plumages exceed the known diversity of colors found in the plumages of all other bird species combined.
