Monthly Meeting – 10/10/2023 – Where Are All the Shy Folk? Tracking American Bitterns in Connecticut

Speaker: Samuel Merker, Ph.D.
The presentation will cover the natural history, ecology, knowledge gaps, and trivia of the American Bittern (Botaurus lentiginosus). I will also discuss our tracking project in Connecticut including what we have learned, and new questions generated by the data we have collected.
Samuel Merker is a postdoctoral researcher at the UConn Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Sam is very interested in learning more about understudied birds like American Bittern. He spends his free time bird watching, hiking, woodworking, and generally tinkering with things.
