Bird Banding and Tagging – tools to increase understanding
and improve management of bird species in CT and beyond
Appyling bands to birds and recapturing or resighting them was one
of the first methods that was used to understand the movements of
birds and their survival rates. This tool is still used today in addition
to a number of other technologies, including nanotags, Motus towers,
and GPS/GSM tags. During this presentation, Corrie Folsom-O’Keefe,
Director of Bird Conservation for the Connecticut Office of the
National Audubon Society will share ways that Audubon is using these
tools to manage habitat at the Bent of the River Audubon Center, assist
partners in understanding dispersal of Purple Martins, and learn about
the movements of American Oystercatchers during the breeding
season and beyond.
