Wildlife Series – 12/5/2023 – How Colorful are Hummingbirds to Themselves?
Program begins at 7:30 pm
Speaker: Richard Prum, PhD
Tonight Dr. Prum will present the curious story of Hummingbird plumage and color vision. Yale ornithologist Richard Prum has spent years working with students to understand the full range of colors in birds’ plumage. They use a model based on the range of colors birds can see, which includes ultraviolet colors that humans can’t see such as ultraviolet yellow and ultraviolet green. Dr. Prum is the William Robertson Coe Professor of Ornithology, Ecology, and Evolutionary Biology at Yale University where he works on research projects with students.
